Foot Care for Senior dogs

Foot Care – is hugely important – all pets should have their feet checked regularly:
Nails should be kept short so they only just touch the floor as the dog walks – any longer and they start to affect the joints of the toes which them impacts on how they walk which in turn can affect arthritic joints higher up.
Foot fur – Some dogs grow very long fur under their feet which sits over the top of their pads when they walk. This is like us spending all our time walking around in a pair of slippery socks. Foot pads help with grip and reduce slipping but are no use if they are covered in fur. Clippers should be used frequently to clip off any fur that overlies the pads.
