Arthritis in Cats

As the cooler months are settling in our vets are definitely feeling the cold! Like us, cats and dogs can feel the cold as well and chronic pain like arthritis can be more pronounced. We have a lot of success stories on dogs that respond very well to arthritis treatment but we would like to discuss our feline friends as well!

At Willunga and Aldinga Vet Clinics we are happy to see all different animals – big and small. However, a case a few weeks ago was quite a novelty when Alisha a 15 year old, short-necked turtle presented to Dr Brooke Hasler at the Willunga Clinic.

Bladder Stones

Bailey presented to the clinic as she was having issues urinating properly on and off for 3 weeks. But being true to the Labrador in her- no issues with her appetite! . On examination Bailey’s bladder felt abnormal – like it contained a handful of sand. A urine sample was taken and assessed under a microscope that revealed some bacteria present in the urine but no crystals. For diagnosis of the problem imaging was required (ultrasound and/or x-rays are required).
